Rock Island, IL
This project will become the new union hall for District 8 of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150, a labor union representing 23,000 working men and women in Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa. The hall’s design includes a wing of administrative offices, lobby with Union history showcase, and an adaptable hall space with seating for up to 300 people, featuring exposed CLT roof, glulam beams and columns, and a stage and backdrop made from CLT. The building will be the first Union Hall in the entire country fully constructed from Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glulam columns and beams. The CLT and glulam design maximizes the strengths of each material, for fast, efficient construction as well as creating a strong connection between the building itself, and the site it rests on, featuring a diverse landscape of old growth forest and protected wetlands.
