Bath, NH
Britton Lumber Company in Bath, New Hampshire, is investing in sustainable energy by upgrading its Eastern White Pine operations with a new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) project. The project includes a wood-gasification system, replacing old equipment to convert sawmill wood residues into energy. A 300 HP Hurst wood boiler and a microsteam turbine from Nline Energy will generate low-cost electricity, with excess power sent to the grid.
In addition to electricity, the system will provide heat for the sawmill, improving comfort and reducing equipment wear in winter. The new facility will incorporate Mass Timber in its structure, highlighting Britton Lumber’s commitment to sustainable materials.
This project has received financial support from various partners, including Britton Lumber, Ledyard National Bank, the United States Forest Service Community Wood Grant Program, the Rural Energy for America Program, the New Hampshire Department of Energy, and Eversource, the local electric utility.
